Happy Birthday Liverpool

In 2007 the UK maritime port city of Liverpool will celebrate the 800th anniversary of the granting of its charter as a city by King John.

Apart from the expected scores of official dazzling parties and celebrations, this marvellous event will be marked by a fabulous photo book that will feature thousands and thousands of faces of the citizens of Liverpool, from all walks of life, of all ages and all nationalities.

Titled 'Happy Birthday Liverpool' this coffee-table style book - which will undoubtedly become a much sought after item - will put the focus on the people of Liverpool, capturing as many of them as is possible for perpetuity in page after fascinating page. The aim is to use all of the methods now possible to take photographs: using cameras, both digital and SLR, mobile phone cameras and stills taken from camcorders etc.

In any city it is the people who shape the image, the identity and personality and Liverpool in particular has made an impact globally over the centuries. It is renowned for its maritime history and modern day port related successes, its stunning musical heritage, its sport, its architecture and its literature; as well as its often feisty political agenda. It is a great melting pot of differing racial persuasions, and it is this melange of peoples which has forged its unique character.

This unusual and ambitious photographic project will, we hope, help mark the 800th birthday of this truly remarkable metropolis in a similarly remarkable way. And it may even become a record breaking project of its own with the publication of such a wide array of faces; something we believe has never happened on such a scale before. Further details will be listed on this website as the project progresses.
